PGIMER, First Government Hospital to Provide SMS Alert Services

on June 12, 2013 a computerized service was opened in PGIMER with the aim of helping private grant patients. Through the new service, the patients, doctors and suppliers will get SMS alerts as soon as the funds are received in the private grant cell.

Private Grant Cell (PGC) processes patients' grants from various sources like Chief Minister Relief Fund, Prime Minister Relief Fund, ESI and National Rural Health Mission. Earlier, patients had to visit the PGC many times to know whether funds have been received. It is believed that the new computerized service will save many from the toil of visiting PGC on a regular basis.

The lack of information from the PGC also hindered the doctors from prescribing right treatment to the patients at right time. It has come to light that the number of grants has increased seven folds since 2005.

The SMS service is likely to be the first of its kind in any government hospital across the country. It will introduce transparency and keep all stakeholders informed and may lead to reducing the delays in the treatment that happen due to lack of communication between the patient, doctor, PGC and suppliers.
