The city, which is better known as an education hub, lacks Eklavyas. This is what the city-based teachers believe when talking about the guru-shishya relationship in the present scenario. Nearly 78 percent of the teachers from the city believe that the students' gratitude levels towards their teachers have dropped in the past 10 years. This was revealed in a recent survey conducted among 3,262 teachers from schools and higher education institutes in 223 tier I, II and III cities across 25 states by Pearson to assess teachers' perspective on changing student-teacher dynamics.
According to the survey, while 72 percent of the teachers in the country feel that students adequately acknowledge them for their success, the level of gratitude has declined over the past 10 years. Vinod Sharma, headmaster of Government Model High School in Sector 34, believes that multiple ways of getting information has lowered the bond between students and teachers. He said, “Earlier, students depended on teachers and genuinely followed their advice, but now, there are many sources of information, and students feel they are self-sufficient.”
