Cycle Tracks in Industrial Area
August 17, 2013

Industrial Area will finally have cycle tracks for the large workforce that pedals to the place every day. There have been concerns about the safety of cyclists in view of the growing traffic flow due to the massive commercial activity.

New malls and hotels coming up in Industrial Area, Phase I, attract a large number of cars every day and the situation is particularly bad on weekends. Cycle (V8) lanes were planned by Le Corbusier, but only a few stretches have the facility. An entire plan for cycle tracks and non-motorised traffic to provide seamless connectivity across the city will be prepared.

With the administration doing precious little to promote cycling, resident welfare associations have pointed out how cycle tracks were being used by rowdy motorcyclists to avoid traffic lights and that petty thieves found deserted tracks easy to scale the walls of houses situated alongside.
