Chandigarh no Longer a Favourite Place for Foreigners
Chandigarh seems to be losing out on being a favourite destination for foreign tourists in the region as their number has registered a downward trend over the past three years. Absence of initiatives by the UT administration is evident as no big events are being organized to woo tourists. Key projects such as theme gardens are also running behind schedule.

Even though Le Corbusier's buildings draw a number of tourists, particularly for academic interest, from European countries, the tedious procedure to get permission to visit Capitol Complex acts as a dampener. Plans like simplification of the formalities and setting up of a tourist information centre are yet to bear fruit.

Rajab Bajaj, a travel agent, said that lack of proper budget accommodation was another reason behind tourists not considering Chandigarh as an option anymore. The administration has failed to take any steps in this direction, he added.
