The Municipal Councillors have asked the UT administration to kill the violent dogs for the safety of the public. During a meeting, councillors blamed the UT Administration for not taking efforts to control stray canine menace.
The MC claimed that it wrote six letters to the UT in the last two years to allot land for a dog pond a basic requirement to control the menace but the issue was still hanging fire.
In Mumbai, there is a provision to kill the dog if the animal becomes violent in order to save human lives. But no action is being taken to end the menace, which was the main objective of the high court's directions to the UT.
Saurabh Joshi, a councillor from BJP said that violent dogs can be killed by adopting all procedures and taking the public into confidence, because lives of human beings are important.
Nominated councillor Brigadier D S Sandhu (retd) said that at least 22 dog bite cases take place in a day in the city and sterilization figures are not convincing. Nothing concrete is being done to control the dog menace, an issue that needs immediate attention.
