October 3, 2013

According to the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), around 800 dogs and 270 cattle were brought to the hospital-cum-animal-shelter this year, most of whom were accident victims.

The findings of the survey were revealed by Neeru Sidhu, honorary general secretary, SPCA. In the findings it was brought to notice that about 3-4 cases of injured stray dogs are reported at the SPCA on a daily basis. Neeru Sidhu has asked the city residents to take care for the stray animals especially when they are injured.

A charitable organization, People for Animals (PFA), also emphasized over the need to make the stay of the stray animals safe. The organization said that an injured dog has high chances of succumbing to death because of the infection of maggots. Abul Waafa, a senior surgeon in SPCA said, "Many dogs get deeply disturbed and traumatised after an accident. They eventually lose their will to survive".
