Case of Woman Killing In 2010 Reopens
July 11, 2013

A lower court on June 10, 2013 acquitted three men accused of possessing 200g charas each. A case was registered against them under the NDPS Act by the Chandigarh Police on November 27, 2010. The three were suspected by the police in the murder of a Sector 38 woman on July 30, 2010. According to the defence counsel, the police falsely implicated the men after they were illegally picked up without informing their guardians.

The 22-year-old MBA student was allegedly murdered on July 30, 2010 and her body was found near Kaka Taxi Stand in Sector 38. A graduate from MCM DAV College for Girls, Sector 36, she was pursuing her MBA from Mohali.

According to defence counsel, advocate Rabindra Pandit, the Chandigarh Police conducted brain mapping and narco analysis tests of the three accused. However, the test reports could not find anything incriminating against them in the murder case, claimed the defence counsel.

According to the defence, a false case of NDPS was foisted on the three youth in order to cover up the illegal arrest. After they were arrested in 2010, the Chandigarh police had sought permission from the court to collect their blood samples. After they were released on bail, the crime investigation agency (CIA) branch moved an application before the Ilaqa magistrate, seeking permission to conduct their brain mapping and narco analysis tests.

No case was registered against the three by the Chandigarh Police in connection with the murder case. However, a case under the NDPS act was registered against them. The case fell flat, as the prosecution failed to prove its case. The three were acquitted on Wednesday by a local court.
