Drug Awareness Program Held
June 27, 2013

Drug Awareness Program by State AIDS Control Society was organized in which about 150 students took part in collaboration with drug de-addiction centre, General Multi-speciality Hospital, Sector 16 (GMH-16), to observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

For many years, people often believed that the increased cases of HIV/AIDS were only due to drug use and needle sharing. However, there are many other factors that greatly contribute in the spread of HIV/AIDS, like drug abuse.

Experts from GMSH-16 said that the addiction menace and peer pressure invite most of the youngsters towards drug addiction. During the drug awareness program, the participants were asked to follow the theme for the year, "make health your 'new high' in life, not drugs" issued by WHO. A play was also organized to empower people about HIV/AIDS and drug addiction followed by a march by participants.
