Marathon Held To Encourage Youth to Vote
October 3, 2013

A marathon for a stronger democracy was held to create awareness and encouraging young voters to enrol in the voters list. The marathon was flagged off by UT Home Secretary-cum-Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar on 24 September, 2013 at Sukhna Lake.

The walk was followed by performance of patriotic songs by singer Nitin Dawar at the lake. This was the first time when the UT Election department has organized such an event for creating awareness. The department is focusing on encouraging young residents to enrol themselves as electors of the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency. Special camps for enrolment of young residents shall be held in the universities, colleges and schools in the city.

For comprehensive participation of all the residents and to ensure 100 percent registration, political parties and resident’s welfare associations have been asked to extend co-operation. The Election department will assign more block-level officers (BLOs) in southern areas with special focus on co-operative housing societies and labour colonies.
