Kharar Police on Lookout for Kala Kachha Gang

After having arrested six members of the Kala Kachha gang on the night of August 19, Kharar police is on the lookout for more members of the dreaded gang. A Kharar court, on August 20, had remanded the six to two days police custody, even though Kharar police had sought five days police remand.

The accused were nabbed from an abandoned KTM factory in Kharar on Monday around 9 pm where they were allegedly planning to rob a nearby place. The accused have been identified as Gola (47), resident of Chandikotla (Nada Sahib), Bhola (35), Vicky (18) and Lakha (49), residents of Kharar; Rahul (19), resident of Ambala; and Denny (27), resident of Banur.

Several sharp-edged and blunt weapons including iron rods, a baseball bat and a chopper were recovered from the accused. They have been booked on charges of dacoit under sections 399 and 402 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the police, two of the accused, Denny and Lakha, belong to the 'Akeel' gang which is notorious in and around Punjab and was responsible for the murder of three people in Chhaju Majra in 2005. Five people of the 'Akeel' gang, who were arrested in 2005 and released on bail in December last year, disappeared were on bail, the police added. Gola and Bhola have several cases registered against them in Rupnagar, Panchkula and Mohali for involvement in robberies by the 'Kala Kachha' gang, while Rahul has seven cases registered against him in Haryana. Police claimed the accused confessed to working in three separate gangs, which also included other members of the 'Akeel' gang.
