Varsity Moves Ahead with Integrated Courses

Tired of waiting for the University Grants Commission (UGC) response to a proposal sent by the Panjab University (PU) on integrated courses, the PU authorities have started working on the project of introducing integrated courses across the faculties.

The UGC had asked all the universities about their new plans. The PU, along with other plans, had submitted a five-page concept of integrated graduate courses to the commission. Considering the applications of the10 universities will be selected for a grant of Rs 300 crore.

Under this integrated system, the students will be admitted in the particular faculty of his choice after class 12. The admission will be based on either merit or an entrance test. Depending on it, the student has to study all the important subjects related to his or her field in the first year, which will have two semesters. Then in the second year, the student will have to study the subject he or she will be interested in. After completing under graduation, the student can enrol for master courses and then in PhD course in the same department.
