Illegally Shrines under Scanner
May 16, 2013

The UT Estate Office has recently caught up by myriad number of shrine located on the earlier vacated land. The issue of illegal shrine was brought in to the notice of the UT Estate Office when a shine came up in Sector 38 (W) on a land that was vacated by the Estate Office. A barbed wire has also been put around it to prevent encroachment.

Around two years ago, an illegal colony with a substantial population that existed on the land was removed. However, over the last two weeks, a shrine started coming up at the site. A grave was built. It was then covered with a green cloth. Two concrete structures have now been built there. Area residents said that they have seen the structure come up before their eyes in a matter of days.

With the authorities having turned a blind eye, the residents are concerned that if allowed to remain at the site, the shrine will become a permanent structure and it will become difficult for the authorities to remove it as has been a case with number of other structures across the city.
