Bhagwant Singh Charitable Trust to Move HC against UT under Land Lease Case
May 16, 2013

Agitated over the decision of the UT Administration of canceling the lease of the land allotted to the Bhagwant Singh Charitable Trust has decided to move the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the administration. The management of the Bhagwant Singh Charitable Trust runs one of the city's most prominent private schools, Vivek High School, which is located in Sector 38.

The management took this decision after the UT Adviser KK Sharma affirmed the order, of the Estate Office and the Chief Administrator, of canceling the lease of 5.92 acres of the land which had been allotted to the trust. The decision was taken by the UT Administration after the Bhagwant Singh Charitable Trust failed to remove the building violations on the school premises even after it was given time to do so.

The order of K K Sharma however read that the trust was given enough time to remove the violations, but to no avail. According to the inspection, dated February 18, out of 18 violations, 11 are fresh violations. Earlier also, in 1993, the Administration had pointed out violations and then cancelled the site, and later, the high court had asked the trust to remove unauthorized construction before June 30, 1997.
