Punjab And High Court Ask PU To Provide Details On Vacant Posts
23 May, 2013

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the Registrar of the Panjab University to provide details of all posts lying vacant in the University and the procedure to fill them. The directions were passed on Wednesday during the resumed hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by RTI Activist Dr Rajinder Kumar Singla.

The petitioner had challenged the emergency appointment of Dr Neera Grover as Professor of Music in Panjab University. While arguing the case, the counsel for the petitioner, Dr R D Anand, invited the attention of the court to the reply of the university under RTI Act wherein the university had said that no student or candidate is enrolled or registered with her for MPhil or PhD work and that the classroom teaching is already over and as such there is no work for her in the department. Appearing on behalf of the university, senior lawyer Anupam Gupta submitted that Dr Neera Grover has been teaching regularly, without fail, in the department. The case has been adjourned for two months.
